Awsome bass at an affordable price May 01, 2010
By Keith Russell

I did not have the purchase experience as the other person did... I bought my at Guitar Center so it wasn't dented or anything. This is an amazong bass. I know off-brand things leave a bad taste in people's mouth, i.e. what Squire is to Fender, or what Epiphone is to Gibson. Even though this is an off-brand to Ernie Ball, EB still retains much of its control over production so in the end you get a quality product. My other bass is an Ibanez Iceman, which in my opinion sounded far better than most of the Fender and Epiphone basses I tried. Anyway, when I found Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray, it was a whole new world that opened up for me. But the sticker shock was dissapointing. Well, now they have Sterling by Music Man, and it's just as impressive at half the price. The comparison between my two basses are night and day, my Ibanez Iceman sounds beefy but I have to turn it up full volume. My Ray35 is louder than the Iceman at half volume. It's also nice having the active pre-amp EQ. The only downside was that the neck was too tight and I had a lot of string buzz. The good thing about these basses is that it is really easy to adjust, they have this metal rod that you use to turn the wheel and that's it. No unscrewing, no removing the strings, no detuning, just twist the little wheel.

Great Bass - Lousy packaging Mar 24, 2010

I ordered the bass through Amazon, and received it promptly. Unfortunately, due to insufficient packaging the bass was dented during shipping. Amazon was very accommodating, shipping a replacement immediately and giving me up to 30 days to return the damaged one. Immediately after Amazon received the returned (damaged) bass, they credited my account for the cost I incurred to ship it back. Couldn't have asked for a better return/exchange policy.
The original bass I received was set up almost perfectly, but that is the one I had to return (see above). The replacement bass was set up poorly with the strings literally touching the fretboard when it was laid flat. I did a set up and now it plays great and holds intonation very well. I really like the sound of it, and the quality of the manufacture is good. Overall I am quite happy with the purchase. I wish the original bass would have arrived undamaged, but Amazon promptly and completely addressed the problem with their return policy. I highly recommend the bass, but I would also urge Amazon to work with their sellers to provide better packaging (I left feedback on the packaging with Amazon).
