best bass under 400 Jan 18, 2008
By Jesse DAVID CLEWIS i replaced the strings right of the bat with earnie ball's but the wieght sound and neck are just amazing... i'd been playin guitar for 4 or 5 years when i had an epiphany, iwas only uning the top 4 stringgs anyway, not to mention being habitually in drop D, so i needed a bass... forum after forum, this was the guitar that came up time and time agian, so just buy the damn thing! you wont regret it... also ibanez SW35, great amp for the money.... lots of features, and very versitile, enjoi!

10th guitar but first bass Jan 19, 2010
By TAP Played guitar 40+. Still own 8 fine instuments, but I wanted to add a bass. Found one of these used, the action was very low, thin neck, no buzzing. Felt very strat-like. Would have paid double this price for a guitar that felt right like this. Even bought the Marshall base amp I used during its audition. Sound is very flexible. The EQ, limiter, and the compressor on the amp just supplement it. I am using this instrument as a baseline for a high end instrument. So far, it is still my only bass. Recommendations for anyone: It has to fit your hand, sound right to your ear, and have that feel you desire.

bassomatic--wow, that's great bass! Feb 19, 2010
By Greg Rebuck (For all of you who didn't watch SNL in the 70s...on second thought, "NEVER MIND!")
I've had this little gem for about a month and I LOVE it! I'll admit I got it used for about $100 less than you can typically buy them but it was in wonderful shape.
When I was college age I used to play the short-lived Fender Bullet bass. This one is in the same price range but has a lot more versatility mainly due to its 2 sets of pickups. Sometimes on an inexpensive instrument it's hard to tell the difference in sound between pickups but not on this guy! It has a full range of sounds (well, as much as you can get from a bass without stomp boxes.) In order to maximize its sound potential I also got it a friend: the Ibanez SW65 bass amp, which I also got used for about half price (is there a theme here? oh yeah--I'm cheap...) and the two adore each other! So that's my tip--whatever quality/price level of bass you get, match it with a good BASS AMP that has enough power and big enough speaker(s) so that the windows start sweatin'! Oh and I really dig the look and feel of the neck that is quite narrow at the nut.
I got the black one and looks tres chic. The funky looking headstock is cool and reminds me of some of the ancient oriental stringed instruments. Maybe I'm just into slightly unusual features: I have an Electra X290 Workingman (6 string) which has a headstock that some have described as the "Gumby head". Ibanez wasn't even on my radar until very recently and I was a little queasy about "made in Indonesia". I'm becoming a fan, though! One shouldn't always be put off by low cost; at least for this little baby I say: "price shmice!"

naive bassist rates highly May 14, 2009
By Michael L. Love
"free is a verb"
I have a blue GSR200 of the early variety with three knobs. It is my first bass, and I am very happy with it. The range of bass sounds that can be produced by the two sets of pickups and some knob twiddling is really mind blowing. In my opinion, this is the bass to start with. It sounds marvelous.
