1Completely Unreliable  Oct 01, 2010 By Cav
Initially sounded incredible, but on the 3rd rehearsal it started blowing farts, (not even using 50% of volume capacity.) I knew based on previous reviews that there was a design or quality control issue, but was intrigued by the 2x12 speaker arrangement and thought I would take a chance. My guess is that they sacrificed durability by obtaining such an extraordinary light weight (27lbs I think) and they quite obviously did not take the amp through thorough QC testing to ensure the product they were delivering to market was as advertised given how common this same basic problem has been.

Contacted Gallien-Krueger's support department initially to see about having it replaced or repaired 2 weeks ago. Still have not heard back. And it's more for this latter reason than the deficient design that I will ever after be hesitant about buying anything from Gallien-Krueger in the future. After a couple days of not hearing from GK, contacted Amazon to return item, which they did hassle free. It's why I do all of my online shopping with Amazon whenever possible. Amazon 5 stars; GK 1 star.

5This is a ground breaking amp.  Jul 13, 2010 By M. Dileo "mdileo"
I'm a 20+ year pro player. I've had many a rig from dual 4x10 SWR to GK 2x10 rigs with 1001RB head. This amp sounds GREAT! It has a really nice tone, warm and fat and BIG. It also sounds good at low volumes when practicing. The guys in my band all commented that my new bass rig sounds great. And of of the guys is a pro sax player with a really good ear. On the downside the first one I got had a rattle in one speaker. The second one was damaged in shipping so that's not GK's fault. Third one was the charm. Glad a stayed with it until I got a good one. Since this is a new product with lots of new technologies I think GK gets a pass for working out the bugs. I've played it on two gigs now. One an outside venue with 1000+ people and another inside with 500+ people. No problem on either one. The EQ is very useful and plenty for me and the sound guys tell me the direct out is clean and quiet. It would be perfect if it had a tuner out with tuning mute. Or better yet a built in tuner. This thing is a pleasure to carry out. It will probably extend my career by 5 years. Try it you might be surprised.

5Best Bass/Keyboard Amp Combo For The $$  Jan 23, 2011 By Rockinroller "Rockinroller"
WOW! After years of playing through 80-110lb bass and keyboard amps, I read the reviews for this MB212 last year and decided that if I could get rid of my assemblage of combo amps, I'd try the GK (which I'd never used before).
WOW again!! This amp has got to be the BEST amp I have ever played through, in terms of punchy bass commingling with crisp and crunchy mids and highs that are usually part of my B3 organ setting (with LH bass) used during performances. I fondly remember now why the 12" drivers were so common back in the 60s and 70s in bass amps. That, coupled with 500 horsepower being pumped through the system and the high frequency tweeter just combines to give a total, all-around balanced powerful sound.

There is no question that even at full ($699)price, this combo amp has to be the buy of the century. You cannot go wrong with this amp and early production defects (focusing on the crackling from the tweeter) have been corrected. GK's customer support is second to none as well. The only issue that GK suffers from--based on the extreme "wonderful-horrible" reviews--is quality control in the manufacture of the product. I think the design and engineering is on the right track. Maybe the company needs to insure quality consistency in what ships out of the factory.

And for those of you requiring an output for extension cabinets, what's the point? You've got everything right here in the 38lb case that you'll ever need for your own monitoring, or for small to med. sized rooms. If you need more than that, go through the mains (this has a great XLR line out for min. hum).

Again, no finer bass OR KEYBOARD combo amp for the money--maybe even for any price!

1sounded great....  Sep 30, 2011 By D. Wieler
When I initially got this amp, I was very happy with it. Extremely light weight, great tone, no gripes. Then my band played a show at a bar (maybe 20 people there) and I turn the amp up to probably 40% of it's max. It starts blowing farts and smelling of burning, which was extremely frustrating and embarrassing.

I definitely feel like I got ripped off on this amp for $700. I will not be purchasing anything from GK ever again.

Also, the amp has a cheap feel to it. The knobs are plasticky, the chrome cage that looks great in that picture is very flimsy and cheap feeling.

Avoid this amp at all costs.

5Never a problem!  May 08, 2011 By Pep
The MB212 is one great combo amp and the answer to the woes of carrying all the heavy crap for the past 30+ years. I've read many reviews on this amp from several websites. While I've never had an issue with this unit, whenever I had an issue with a G-K product, they were very quick to respond and resolve the problem.
I was initially disappointed that the rig did not have an addtional line out so I could use a power amp and an addtional cabinet for large-outdoor venues. After thinking it over I can simply run the "lineout" to a direct box, Then run one output from the direct box to the power amp and the other to the board.
With the price of oil and everything else going up, look for the Neo speakers to increase as well. Rumor has it that one of the key ingredients used in making Neos can only be found in China. I can't confirm this but if it's true these little babies will be getting more expensive.
I know there have been several who have had problems with this amp ands have given it poor reviews. I wouldn't cared if I'd gone through 100 of these things to find a good one.
