Excellent choice for the tube tone fanatic... Oct 01, 2011

First off, let me qualify myself as someone with a good grasp of high quality bass tone.
I've been playing bass since 1968. My first bass was an 'original' Fender 1962 Jazz Bass, which I still play.
Some of the amps I've owned, and played through on countless gigs, include Ampeg SVT, Ampeg 60's B-15, Fender PS400, SWR Redhead, SM 400, Tube works, Walter Woods, Acoustic Image, Gallien Krueger, Trace Elliot and Eden.
I Have been a full time, working professional for many years, touring the world, backing up many well known recording artists. These days, I'm semi retired, still playing music, living on the island of Kauai.
The GK Fusion 550, to 'my' ears sounds amazing. Thick, rich, clear 'tube tone' Smooth and buttery. I have it pushing an old SWR goliath II 4x10 cabinet. Lot's of power to rise above the roar of a loud band, without clipping or distorting. However, if a 'musical' distortion is what you want, it's easy to dial up. You can get a throaty growl quite easily.
The channel switching works perfectly and will allow you to use two presets, which is all most real world bassists need. Watching the motorized controls move by themselves is very cool. You change settings with the included foot switch, which incorporates a mute switch as well.
Tone quality, or the perception there of, is of course relative to who's listening and is unique to the individual. With that said, 'my' opinion is as follows-
Old school, new school and all points in between, This is a well thought out amp for the working bass player. Simple to use and built for durability. GK is a company that has earned a stellar reputation by standing behind their product. This professional level amplifier should satisfy just about any bass player. You won't go wrong in making this purchase.
