| |
| | Description | Elixir Strings revolutionized guitar strings by finding a way to extend the life of wound strings without compromising the tone. Polyweb coated strings have a balanced tone and smooth response - they sound like strings that have been "played in". Nanoweb coated strings sound and feel like uncoated strings - they are bright and lively, and the coating is so micro thin that you can barely tell it's there. | |

By autoprime I got these for my SoundGear 4 string. Because my 5 string Schecter came with elixir strings and they still have good tone after 4 years! The nanoweb coating is easy on your fingers. Do yourself a favor and get these.

Be careful installing them.... Aug 18, 2011
By Mike DeMoss These strings are great, just be careful when you install them, because they can break if you tighten them too quickly. I always tighten them a little, stretch them with your fingers, tighten a little more...etc. Once they're on and in tune, they're the best.
Surprisingly Nice, Bright and Smooth! Apr 03, 2012

I just put these on and my first response was "Wow"...
These Elixirs have the smooth feel advertised & mentioned by other reviewers, so that your fingers just glide over them. and maybe it's because I haven't put on new strings in awhile, but when I first played these the sound was crisper & brighter than expected. I can't speak to the longevity of these strings, but they are unlike anything I've played before.
Put it this way, I've purchased other bass strings from amazon, and they've all been adequate. But this is the first time I've felt the desire to write a review on bass strings!
I very impressed with them and recommend.
Tonic for your stringed instrument Mar 29, 2012
By Mousekillaz My primary instrument is a Tobias Killer B 4 string bass guitar, I also play electric and acoustic guitars. I've have been playing since 1975. I played professionally for several years, at this time, I only play recreationally. I have used many brands of strings over the years, I had settled on D'Addario XL's but was constantly having to change sets to maintain the desired tone. They'd last for three to four days and were done. A fellow bass player suggested trying a set of Elixirs, but at the time I wasn't playing that often so I had a hard time justifying the extra expense for them. Awhile later I purchased a used Ibanez SR bass. It was five years old and still had the original strings on it. They still sounded great! In fact it was at least four more months before I changed them, only because they were getting a bit fuzzy. So I tried another set having been impressed with their warm balanced tone and exceptional durability. I have tried some other brands coated strings but so far have not found any others I would recommend. None have exhibited the longevity of the Elixirs. In my experience they are lasting about three months and I play at least 1-2 hrs. a day. Yes they are more expensive initially but will save you quite a bit of money in no time. I am not going to write at length about their tone because it is so subjective. I will say I find it to be completely acceptable. Not overly bright but clear and warm. I would characterize it like a just "broken in" tone that just stays there. I also have equipped both my 12 and 6 string acoustics with elixirs and am very satisfied with the tone and again exceptional durability. I use EB Super Slinkys on the electric guitars. I would recommend Elixirs to anyone, pro or novice.
Ok-isk Mar 15, 2012

These are ok-ish strings, they were very bright and clean sounding at first when I put them on my bassist guitar.
I was hyped about the protective coating around the strings, that's why I bought em. Elixir touts that these strings could last as much as 5 times longer than normal strings, because of this protective coating.
The coating started shedding a few days into the second week of VERY light playing. We gig on Friday nights which last for about 45 mins of actual playing, Sundays for a total of 2hrs max play time.
For the price I really dont think I'll be buying another pack since the coating is completely off around the commonly used parts of the fret board and around the pickup areas where you attack the strings.
My bassist plays with fingers and picks now and then.
Also I was VERY disappointed when I got the product and opened it to only find ONE pack/set of strings. I grabbed the box and had a look to see where on earth I got the notion that I was getting 4 packs/sets of strings. Well have a look at the product image for yourself, it says 4 set, they should really take that off or find another way to phase what they are trying to say. Their intent obviously was to say it's one pack of strings for your bass that contains strings for a 4 string bass guitar. Marketing is a funny thing huh.
Anyways to wrap up I liked the sound of the strings initially (although there was a coating over it, it didn't 'damp' the sound as I had suspected). For the price and the protective coating shedding issue I won't purchase another pack. Too expensive and doesn't live up to the hype.
I use D'Addario on my electric, I play lead and rhythm. These strings are considered to be in the top 5 list. They are used by a lot of big musicians out there, yet the prices are VERY affordable.
