4Best Octave Divider for Bass I've used  Feb 21, 2008 By BassMan
I've been using this effect live and in recording situations for 3-4 years now, and I love it. The best thing about the pedal is it's ability to track accurately. Like any Octave divider you try, if you use this on notes lower than a B you won't get a good sound, largely because you can't hear very accurately below a low B, and even if you can, chance are you don't have an amp or speaker that can accurately reproduce those sounds. I'm just saying this because it's a frequent complaint of people who first try these on the bass. Use it on the high notes and it sings and tracks well. There's a three position switch that lets you choose between a synth type octave sound (high) a regular octave sound, and a deeper frequency. My experience is tat the best tracking comes in the middle position, but the high position can sound pretty cool too. The low position isn't really what I'm looking for, but I do know a bass player with this pedal who swears by it, and it sounds good when he uses it. The build quality is solid, and after years of stage use the only damage to mine is some of the fancy paint worn off. I've spilled beer on it numerous times and it keeps on ticking. I've kicked the heck out of it and stupidly yanked cables out of it and it's all solid.

The one issue I have with this (and other pedals in this line) is that it's a pain in the neck to change the battery. You have to remove the scres holding the back plate on to get at the battery compartment. I don't use a battery, I use an adapter because I got sick of changing the battery out. Other than that, the EBS Octabass was well worth the full list price I paid long ago. I got my money's worth out of it. FOrtunately, you can get it now for less than I paid originally.

5Great pedal !  Jan 21, 2012 By Zac
Great octaver pedal for bass.
The tracking is very good and fast with my passive MIA Fender Precision and
my active Warwick Thumb B.O., but keep in mind that it will not track very well
with a sloppy playing.
The three modes are useful, but I prefer the "Mid" mode, which
sounds the most natural.
"Up" is more synthetic sounding and "Low" sounds very deep and wide.
It is also true bypass, so no signal alteration.

5EBS OctaBass  Aug 20, 2011 By Bass In Your Face
The best bass octave I have ever used. You can get really low tones with this pedal and the tracking is almost perfect. There are times it gets off track but that rarely happens. Mostly with lower notes but up high it is absolutely amazing!

5The Classic Bass Pedal  Feb 17, 2011 By Errol Icsel "Joe Episkopos"
I can see using this in a limted fashion for guitar. For Bass, its just too neccessary. The analog feel is so natural, although you will have a couple of artifact moments. How I would use this live, is different from recording. In the studio, I would do a split signal, or some staccato notes then cut everything above 35 or 40hz to merely push some air. Set the volume a litte lower and your missing rumble problems are gone. Keep in mind, lower frequencies distort so its best to play those frequencies super clean.

Live, I would use this rather than a 5 string bass, possibly another layer of crossover.

My biggest concern is the impact of the loss of this utility. Please keep making these, EBS!
