5Unbelievable Strings  Jan 27, 2006 By Chad E. Prestridge "darkvader75"
I purchased a set of 4 for my bass in 1990. It was just a old Fender Pbass with stock pickups. The bass imediatly had a deeper sound and nicer feel. The strings rang longer and stayed in tune for outstanding periods of time. I had the medium-lights. Now for the pure comedy. The strings outlasted my bass. Yes that is right... the strings were still in good condition and still holding their tone for an entire gig in Jan 2006. 1 set of these lasted me 16years. My Pbass broke just beneath the neck in the body and I am finally going to give up the ghost and buy another set of strings for a bass... There is imediatly no doubt in my mind as to which set to buy. I went through 5 sets of strings in 3 years due to them shredding near joints and then these lasted me 16 YEARS... Value.. Sound... Tone... Tunning... I had bandmates tell me to replace my strings since they knew how old they were and then I would hand my bass over and say play.. then they would say.. um nevermind.. by God.. how long do those last?... ehhe Watching the guitarist changing strings every few weeks and me beating these strings into the ground and still getting perfect tone out of them for that long.. I will just stop now.. I am sure you get the idea. These strings are nuts.. just plain nuts.. now to go buy a new set.

5Dean Markley Blue Steel Bass Strings  Feb 02, 2011 By Watermaker
These strings are AWESOME!!!! If my bass didn't have these strings on it, I'd probably set it on fire! It's not even worth playing without THESE STRINGS!!!! If you're not using Dean Markley Blue Steels, you're obviously a complete amateur poser with no life and no future!!!! I can't believe you even bother wasting the planet's air if you don't have Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings!!!! Punch yourself in the face right now if you don't immediately install Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings!!!! Just stop being a musician!!!! Even if you play the tuba, you should have Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings on it!!!! Get some for your Stradivarius! Put a set on your banjo! If you don't play anything, get something and put Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings on it, QUICK!!!! Before it's too late!!!!

Just kidding, but they are really good strings. Nice bright tone, no duds. With proper care, they last a pretty good while, too. Great value, even though you can find less expensive strings. Sometimes you get what you pay for, right?

5Back to the Blue Steels  Mar 12, 2012 By Jason Miles "miles"
I used to use these ... maybe starting in the 80's? & through the 90's - I stepped away from the bass for a while & in the meantime tried numerous other strings... I decided to give these another go round & I have no idea why I strayed - simply the best strings I've ever used. Great tone, not an overbearing trebly sound, and their tone stays for a long, long time. I love them.

4A distinct sound you may or may not like  Jan 09, 2012 By Rahul P. Kamath "carbon-based life form"
Based mostly on the two glowing reviews here, I took a shot on these Dean Markley strings despite my general loyalty to Ernie Ball. One word: TWANG. These strings have a bright tone and unmistakable twang to them. I wasn't too surprised when I learned recently that the Dead Milkmen's Dave Blood used to use these strings (the bright, twangy sound is audible on many of their songs-- "I am the Walrus" off the Bucky Fellini album is a notable example). I can see how this sound might work for some people's music, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for, as I wanted a mellower, less piercing sound. That said, they are clearly high quality strings, and I would recommend them for anyone looking for that distinctive sound.
