5BEST. BASS. STRINGS. EVER.  Jun 25, 2010 By mirajshah
I bought a set of these to replace my stock strings on my Ibanez GSR200. Although they're a bit pricey, they're worth every penny. These strings immediately brought my sound more sustain, punch, as well as a really smooth, nice all-round tone. Personally, I'm more of a blues/jazz bassist so I found these strings especially good for the warmth needed when playing those types of music. However, I have also played with metal/classic rock bands with these strings, and they work fantastically well! Adjusting the tone controls on your bass guitar/amplifier can really get you that growl/punch that's necessary... these strings are THE most versatile on the planet and amazon has the best price on these! Also note that these strings are smoother than a baby's bottom, so you can say goodbye to all those callouses and dry fingertips.

If you're comparing these to rotosound, I'll have you know that there is no comparison. These strings are the best bass strings, hands-down. I've used rotosounds and they're much rougher on the fingers and don't sound as deep as the D'Addario's.

BUY THESE!

5Best flatwound bass string  Mar 07, 2011 By bassman07
Unlike other flatwound bass strings, Daddario Chromes XLs don't rob your bass's tone. I strung them on my Fender Precision Bass. Sure, these strings deliver authentic classic motown thump (ala James Jamerson), but they can do more. They add a wooley, almost metallic tone to the warm, mellow character of flatwounds. The slap tone will amaze you. On your P-Bass, they can easily be used for Alt Rock, Hip-Hop, Soul, or Jazz. You just have to try them and you will see what I mean. You won't be sorry. They are staying on my bass.

5Best Strings Ever!  Dec 15, 2010 By bassdrummer
I have always played flat would nylon strings because roundwound strings eat my fingers up. My nylons don't have the high tones as steel strings do. The Chromes's are by far the best strings I've ever played. They have great tone just like regular steel strings but also have the low tones and sustain as nylon strings do as well. Chrome's are even smoother than the flatwound nylons so they are super comfortable to play. I highly recommend!

5Best strings out there  Feb 12, 2012 By K. Slater "Saulecker"
I use nothing but these strings on my basses. I love the flat wound tone and feel. I've recommended these to many friends and they have all switched to them as well. Excellent strings!

3Will try another brand next time  Feb 02, 2012 By Joseph Havens
Previous reviews were pretty exemplary so my expectation was perhaps a bit high. After putting the D'Addario EXB81 strings on my standard length 34" Specter bass I was surprised to hear several of them buzzing due to the core rattling inside of the winding. I was able to stop the buzzing by twisting the string one turn at the bridge in order to tighten up the winding, but it seems to me this should not have been necessary. I've confirmed the strings are authentic using the "Play Real" link on the d'Addario website -- nice feature. But still, I'm not overly impressed with their quality control.
