4Just about all a giggin bassist needs  Nov 16, 2011 By John
The Boss GT-10B does just about everything except play the bass for you.

PROS:
* Out of the box, very simple to use for basic operations.
* This is a very, very, very powerful effects unit. You can do just about anything with it and output the sound to nearly any format possible.
* The looper (see below in CONS) makes a great practice tool.
* The displays are easy to read.
* The unit is very solid and well-built.

CONS:
* Moving beyond the basic patches and diving into the more advanced features requires an electrical engineering degree.
* While the manual is helpful for Quick Start-type operations, it is lacking in useful instructions on how to really make this effects unit sing. Your best bet is to search YouTube and the Roland forums for information from other users.
* The unit is heavy at 16 lbs.
* The looper is used more for phrases than actual looping. It's too short and should be extended to at least a minute.
* It's a guitar multi-effects unit at heart. Bassists rarely require more than a few effects (chorus, flanger, octaver, distortion, etc.), so the gazillion patches are a bit overkill.
* You will lose hours of your life when you first fire this up. Why? You'll play every patch and just have a grand time while you're doing. It's like a baby running loose in the kitchen with pots and pans. It's just fun to see what happens!.

5Best Bass FX Processor Available, Bar-None.  Oct 17, 2011 By WickedSpleen
I've played bass, guitar, keyboard, woodwinds, and drums for over 15 years. One of the limiting factors with a bass was always the lack of good all-in-one processors, which restricted the sounds available to a bass, unless a lot of money was spent on analog stomp-boxes or re-purposing guitar FX for bass, which usually killed the low-end. I've tried a number of different rack-mount exciters, tube-driven pedals/amps, DI boxes, and FX pedals, but all were lacking in one way or another - and the cost of the right FX rig was prohibitively expensive and usually required a laptop nearby to orchestrate it all. That's fine for a studio or demo, but when live, it leaves a lot to be desired... and honestly, who likes to an Irish River-dance with their stomp boxes while on-stage?

Then Boss came out with the GT-10 - I tested it out at a local store and loved it on guitar. Then, the GT-10B arrived on-scene. I actually brought my bass, a Warwick Streamer Stage II, to the music store to try this wiz-bang FX pedal out and see what this custom FX processor board could do. The tonal range, amount of FX, the easy-to-use configuration, and the built-in phrase/looper (that can handle ~36 seconds of layered loops) blew me away. THIS is what I had been looking for for over 10 years - a single processor that could handle 95% of my needs. I was SOLD.

I see review complaints/comments about 'gimmicky' sounds and price - but I challenge anyone to come up with a rig that costs less and has the tonal/FX range, flexibility, and feature-set of the GT-10B. I'll save you the trouble - you CAN'T. I must warn you that the out-of-box FX may not be to your liking, which is true of nearly any FX board. You have to work a little and read the instruction manual to setup and arrange the patches that you want. Utilizing the PC link via USB makes storage and customization of a MASSIVE amount of FX easy.

I'm telling you, if the GT-10B would have existed 15 years ago, I would have never envied the pedal-boards or stomp boxes of the guitarists. I would highly suggest viewing the videos of GT-10B demos and features before jumping in and buying it. This is not an FX pedal for the lazy, faint-of-heart, or those who don't know what sounds they're looking for out of their instrument.

4If you're looking for 100% pure effects this is not for you, GREAT MULTI EFFECTS PROCESSOR ANYWAY!  Dec 29, 2011 By Dave B
If you're looking for 100% pure effects this is not for you, I purchased this item knowing this was about 80 or 85% of the pure tone an effect dedicated pedal can produced. However it is a nice effects processor to combined with dedicated pedals too.

I bought this item because of the pedal, loop, EZ Tone creating and 400 patches capability, inputs, outputs, channels, and enormus ways to combine the effects.

GT 10B did not disappoint me, neither surprised me too much with the pure effects tones but with the effects combinations it did since it is like a synthesizer.

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT READ THE MANUAL COMPLETELY YOU MAY NOT KNOW HOW TO USE IT PROPERLY.

3$500 dollars worth it is not  May 30, 2011 By Matti_Ice "xxMatti*Icexx"
I have seen a guitarist use the guitar version of this processor. Also, my best friend has the GT-10B as a part of his, shall we say, massive and expensive bass rig. I have played bass for years, used many types of rigs, effects, equipment, etc. I like to think I'm one of the best bass players around here period. I'm not bragging, just stating that I usually know what I'm talking about.

I have never been a fan of bass processors, I have only owned 1, a Digitech. The Boss GT-10B is simply impressive because of how extremely well it is built! Rock-solid design that will hold up through anything. We have began calling it the super computer and making jokes about how it can launch missles. The reason being is it has an enormous amount of controls. You can tweak everything. Honestly, if you have this processor you are better of leaving your rig at home and just bringing this to the venue and running direct from it. And personally, I think that was Boss's intentions.

While you get an extremely large number of effects and tones, most of them aren't very useful. Gimic type effects you may could use once or twice in a song but nothing helpful, nothing that will find its way into constant use. The presets are decent, but to me they ruin the tone of your bass. If you have a cheap piece of crap then maybe this is for you. I just think it is more distracting than useful. The number of controls make it hard to deal with. You MUST read the novel of a manual that comes with it to learn to use it properly. Making changes on the fly just isn't happening. Too confusing to be something you can work with from the stage floor.

I have to say, save your $500. Buy a Sans Amp and a few analog stomp boxes like a limit enhancer and an overdrive. They will end up serving you better in the end. Cool concept, just too much money for a gimic. If you are wanting to avoid dragging a head and cab around then look into this, go play on one. But what are you going to do when you get to those venues that cannot accomadate you hmm? (been there done that, I suggest staying away from those places period but sometimes you cannot avoid it :)
